HERE WHEN IT MATTERS

A Collaborative Approach to Crisis Intervention,Mobile Intervention Team

In the heart of the community, the Mobile Intervention Team (MIT) stands as a beacon of hope and efficiency. Composed of a social worker and a police officer, this innovative patrol unit addresses some of the most pressing crises, including:

Suicide Prevention and Support

Conjugal Violence Intervention

Mental Health Crises

Assisting Children at Risk

MIT’s mission is to de-escalate and pacify crises while offering family and community-centered solutions. By prioritizing compassion, collaboration, and specialized expertise, MIT ensures that individuals in distress receive the care they need without unnecessary criminalization or stigma.

Benefits of the MIT Approach

Client-Centered Resolutions
By focusing on tailored responses, MIT achieves more adequate resolutions for individuals in crisis, emphasizing their unique needs and circumstances.

Reduced Systemic Pressure and Police Involvement
MIT’s approach alleviates pressure on emergency services by carefully assessing and selecting cases for medical or social intervention. This reduces hospital transports, arrests, and detentions while minimizing the need for police involvement. By integrating de-escalation techniques and alternative solutions, MIT helps:

  • Decrease the use of police force.
  • Reduce the stigmatization of mental health issues.
  • Mitigate tendencies to legalize or criminalize mental health crises unnecessarily.

A Coordinated System of Care and Support
MIT creates a client-centered system of care by engaging the right professionals at the right time, ensuring individuals receive specialized support when they need it most. This approach fosters trust and cooperation among community members and partner organizations, leading to positive experiences and stronger, lasting relationships. By strategically leveraging community resources and informal support networks, MIT reduces reliance on traditional emergency services, optimizing outcomes for individuals in crisis while strengthening the overall network of care.

A Community-Centric Future

The MIT exemplifies the power of teamwork, compassion, and innovation in community crisis intervention. By addressing crises holistically, they not only resolve immediate issues but also contribute to a healthier, safer community for everyone.
