On-The-Land Coordinator

Status: Full-time position, Monday to Friday, 35 hours a week, flexible
Specificity: Summer schedule with Friday afternoons off
Location: Puvirnituq

Salary: Between $60,747 to $ 83,712 (based on experience)
Maximum salary at the time of hiring is $76,057, based on work experience and education

In your On-The-Land (OTL) Coordinator role, you are devoted to promoting healthy lifestyles, sharing traditional knowledge, fostering cultural identity as well as Inuit pride and healing. With a team of dedicated Educators, you collaborate with different partners of the court system and participate in the coordination of various cultural activities and workshops within the community. 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a team of OTL Educators: manage the team composition, designate responsibilities, provide feedback, etc.  
  • Assign referrals coming from the court to the Educators, ensure follow-up on the probation officers, or lawyers, presence and share information in respect with confidentiality laws. 
  • Organize, develop, and participate in cultural activities within the community.
  • Order supplies, crafting, equipment and other necessary material for the activities and outings. 
  • Establish security measures, make sure they are clearly presented during the outings and respected by the participants.
  • Approve and authorize the outings expenses and rentals, as well as the OTL Educators timesheets.
  • Identify the training needs for the team and share them with the OTL Director for approval. 
  • Participate to the OTL coordination team meetings.
  • Perform any other tasks related to the OTL program. 

Requirements:

Education
– Training in project management and/or administration, an asset.

Work Experience
– Significant work experience in managing employees and projects.
– Excellent knowledge of the Inuit culture and good knowledge of the land.
– Significant knowledge of traditional and cultural ways of teaching.
– Awareness of the justice system and its operations, an asset.

Knowledge and Skills
– Practical knowledge of the MS Office suite (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), an asset. 
– Good manual skills for traditional activities such as carpentry, hunting, fishing sewing, beading, etc. 
– Diplomatic sense, flexibility, and perseverance. 
– Tolerance for ambiguity and change.

Languages
– Fluent in Inuktitut. 
– Good communication and writing skills in at least two (2) of the three (3) languages used in Nunavik (English, Inuktitut, French).
