Reflecting on 2025 and Looking Ahead Together

As we begin a new year, we take a moment to reflect on the path we’ve walked together and to look ahead to what we will continue building, together.

Over the past year, Saqijuq’s work has remained deeply rooted in community, culture, and connection to the land. Through on-the-land activities, community gatherings, and culturally grounded initiatives, we have continued to support spaces for learning, healing, and sharing.

On-the-Land (OTL) Program – 2025 Highlights

  • More than 1,500 activities delivered in 7 communities across Nunavik
  • Over 1,800 participant attendances
  • Activities included hunting, fishing, harvesting, berry picking, traditional skills transmission, mechanical and woodworking workshops, community feasts and games
  • Family camps and My Choices camps, creating culturally safe spaces to support healing, address substance use and addiction, strengthen family relationships, and promote wellness through connection to the land
  • Strengthening connections to the land, reinforcing community bonds, and supporting resilience, healing, and collective wellbeing

This year also marked an important milestone with the launch of a second Mobile Intervention Team (MIT) in Kuujjuaq, building on the proven impact of the MIT in Puvirnituq. Together, these teams continue to provide immediate, community-based support during crisis situations, prioritizing de-escalation, prevention, and culturally respectful approaches.

Mobile Intervention Teams (MIT) – 2025 Highlights

  • Two MITs operating in Puvirnituq and Kuujjuaq (Kuujjuaq launched in August 2025)
  • A tandem approach pairing a community worker and a police officer to prioritize safety, de-escalation, and understanding over enforcement when a person is in crisis
  • 747 total interventions carried out in 2025
  • 92% of interventions resolved without judicial action
  • 85% of situations addressed within the community through collaboration and support
  • 190 interventions in Kuujjuaq between August and December

None of this work would be possible without the trust, participation, and guidance of our teams, clients, and partners. Your collaboration and commitment continue to shape and strengthen our work.

As we move into 2026, Saqijuq’s vision remains focused on strengthening community-led initiatives, deepening connections to the land, and supporting wellness and safety in ways that respect Inuit knowledge, culture, and lived experience. Through the continued development of our Mobile Intervention Teams, we aim to ensure that people experiencing crisis are met with dignity, understanding, and community-grounded support, while helping to reduce harm, violence, and unnecessary criminalization. Alongside this, our On-the-Land programs continue to play a vital role in strengthening wellness upstream by fostering connection, resilience, and belonging. Together, these approaches reflect a holistic vision of community safety, one that responds when needed, while also working to prevent crisis by supporting wellness, identity, and connection.

We move forward with humility, listening closely, and growing alongside the communities we serve, committed to Inuit-led solutions that honor Inuit knowledge, lived experience, and the collective responsibility of keeping our communities safe.

Thank you to everyone who guides and supports our work every day,
